The Jussi Award is an accolade to recognize excellence of professionals in the Finnish film industry, including directors, actors, and writers. The formal ceremony is held at the beginning of each year; it is the most important film industry event in Finland. The first Jussi Awards ceremony was held on 16 November 1944 at the Restaurant Adlon in Helsinki. The award is probably the oldest film award in Europe.〔(YLE: Lapland Odyssey Wins Jussi Award )〕 The actual Award is a small gypsum statue depicting a standing nude man with a hat.
